Event: Star Wars Celebration

Client Objectives

Scheduled less than three weeks prior to the opening of the most anticipated motion picture ever, "Episode I: The Phantom Menace," this promotional event was presented to build awareness and excitement for the film and its associated characters and merchandise.

Skyline Recommendations and Solutions

• Produced the three-day event, the only official international Star Wars Celebration sanctioned by Lucasfilm, Ltd. in ten years and attended by over 50,000 fans.
• Coordinated installation of a special exhibit of Star Wars memorabilia consisting of props, banners, models, costumes and artwork that were used in the movie.
• Managed installation of temporary structures:

  Erected a huge temporary structure outside the hangar to house the Celebration Theater. Clips were screened from Episode I and behind the scenes footage was shown. Actors Ray Park who portrays villain Darth Maul, Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks), Jake Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker), Hugh Quarshie (Capt. Panaka), and Pernilla August (Anakin's mother Shmi) were among the Episode I cast members who signed autographs, answered questions and entertained fans with presentations, interviews and stories. Ray Parks demonstrated his awesome martial arts skills, R2-D2 surprised and wowed everyone. C-3PO actor, Anthony Daniels emceed the programs on all three days. Also on hand were costumers Trisha Biggar and Ian McCaig, Industrial Light & Magic genius John Knoll, Producer Rick McCallum and many other artists who brought Episode I to life.

• Supervised erection of a larger temporary structure that housed exhibitors selling various Star Wars collectibles as well as a second auditorium.
• Technical production - set up a stage, lights, sound and state-of-the-art video projection for the various actors and technical people who gave their presentations.
• Contracted and managed a team of some 100 technicians and security staff and maintained a safe and effective event despite getting 10 inches of rain in a matter of hours!
